Bumped into a retired ranger at Yellowstone last month who changed how I pack my bag
He said I was carrying way too many backups for things that barely ever break on a 3-night trip. Has anyone else cut down their gear after talking to someone with way more trail time than you?

That reminds me of when I went on a hiking trip last summer. I packed like THREE extra jackets because I was scared of cold weather. Ended up tying them around my waist the whole time and they were SO annoying. Finally just left one at a rest stop and felt FREE. Same goes for those backup chargers I used to carry everywhere. Turns out most coffee shops have outlets and my phone lasts longer than I thought.

Yeah totally, I've done the same thing with extra layers on hikes too.
