Old timer told me to stop using compression fittings on overhead drops
Guy with 30 years in the trade saw me putting a compression connector on a line running across a ceiling joist. He told me I was asking for trouble because the cable weight would eventually pull it loose. Six months later I got a callback from that same house and sure enough the fitting had slipped and the connection was dead. Has anyone else noticed compression fittings sagging over long spans like that?

Was it actually the fitting slipping or just a bad install?

Used to swear it was always a bad install, you know, user error all the way. But then my buddy had a brand new brass fitting from a big box store that just wouldn't grab right no matter how many times he re-did it. Swapped it for a different fitting from the same batch and it sealed up perfect first try. Definitely changed my mind on that one, some fittings just come with a bad o-ring or a slightly off thread from the factory.
