Three hours to fix a drawer pull I could have drilled in 10 minutes

I spent all Sunday morning trying to adjust a stubborn drawer pull on a Shaker-style cabinet, only to realize the pilot hole was off by barely a millimeter. Wasted a whole afternoon filling and redrilling over a tiny mistake. Anyone else fall into the trap of overcomplicating simple hardware installs?

Man I've been there. What finally worked for me was picking up a cheap plastic centering guide from the hardware store. It basically forces you to mark the exact center of the screw hole before you drill anything. Saved me so many headaches on cabinet pulls since then. Also started keeping a little scrap piece of wood to test my drill angle on before going into the actual door.

and the worst part is you know better but you just keep going anyway. I did the exact same thing on an IKEA cabinet a few months back. Spent a solid hour trying to get a drawer front aligned with the existing hole, kept moving it a hair and drilling again, ended up with a little cluster of holes that looked like a tiny constellation. Had to fill them all with wood putty and wait a day before I could try again. I finally just took the whole drawer front off, laid it flat on my workbench, and marked the spot with a punch so my bit wouldn't wander. Took five minutes after that. Its embarrassing how much time I waste on stuff like that.
