Can we talk about undercab lighting installs that take forever

I had this one kitchen job last month where I figured the undercabinet lights would take maybe an hour tops. Turned into a four hour mess because I forgot to check if the backsplash was actually straight. Every single light bracket needed shims cut to different thicknesses and I had to re-drill three holes that hit studs in weird spots. Next time I'm just bringing a laser level and checking the wall before I even unpack the lights. Has anyone else had a simple install turn into an all day thing like that?

Ugh I feel that, last week I spent an hour looking for a stud finder that was in my other toolbox the whole time.
