Why I stopped laughing at my friend's coupon binder

My buddy Dave showed up to lunch with this giant binder full of coupons last March and I totally cracked up. I thought he was being ridiculous, you know, like one of those extreme couponing shows. But then he paid for $47 worth of takeout with just $12 using some stack of paper coupons. I still don't carry a binder, but I did start clipping digital coupons for my grocery app and saved $30 last week alone. Has anyone else had a budgeting tool they dismissed turn out to actually work?

Digital coupons are the way to go now, no binder needed. Just set a goal of saving $10 a week with grocery app deals and you'll be surprised how fast it adds up.

You're spot on with the "surprised how fast it adds up" part, @cameron_webb. I started doing the same thing a few months back with the Target app and I've saved almost $40 just on stuff like cereal and laundry detergent. The key is to check the digital coupons before you even walk in the store and stack them with the store's weekly deals. For example, last week I got a bag of coffee for $3 off just because I clicked the coupon in the app, and I didn't have to cut anything out or organize a binder. It's honestly way easier than the old school methods, lol.
