That hostel in Barcelona last year where my locker combo failed
I was in a 12-bed dorm at a Sant Jordi hostel and came back from the beach to find my lock jammed with my passport and cash locked inside. The front desk guy just shrugged and said 'maybe try turning it backwards' while I stood there dripping sweat on the tile floor. Has anyone else dealt with locker failures and found a way to keep your stuff safe without trusting those cheap built-in locks?

Did you try asking them for a bolt cutter or something? I had a similar thing happen in Prague where my lock just straight up broke and I could not get it open. I ended up buying one of those small wire cutters from a hardware store nearby and just snipped the thing off, then threw the lock away. Honestly now I just use a small padlock from home with a key instead of a combo, way less headaches when you are tired and just want to get to your bed.

Wait you just snipped it off with wire cutters? Those little things would not budge on the cheap locks I see at hostels, guess you got lucky or something. Did the staff not care at all when you walked in with cutters?
