Somehow hit 50 nights in hostels this year without even trying

I was just adding up my trips for a visa thing and realized ive spent almost two months of the year in hostel dorm rooms across southeast asia, how did that even happen without going broke?

The real trick is that hostels in Southeast Asia are basically priced like a cheap night out back home. I stayed in a dorm in Chiang Mai for $4 a night and that included a free pancake breakfast and a pool. Once you do the math on what you'd spend on rent, utilities, and groceries in a normal month, it actually starts to look like a bargain. Did you end up spending less than your usual monthly rent?
