Rant: That hidden tourist tax in Barcelona caught me off guard

Ngl, I thought I had budgeted pretty well for a week in Barcelona last month. I found a hostel for 30 euros a night and planned to eat cheap. But nobody warned me about the extra city tax that some places charge per person per day even after you book. My hostel added 4 euros a night on top of the room rate, and a few restaurants tacked on a 10% service fee that wasn't on the menu. It added up to like 60 euros extra over the trip. Has anyone else run into surprise fees like this in other cities?

4 euros a night is barely a hidden tax that's just how cities work.

Yeah that's not even a hidden tax lol. Plenty of cities charge way more.
