Hostel kitchen vs hotel room microwave, the breakfast math is wild

Stayed at a hostel in Lisbon for 9 nights and cooked eggs, oats, and pasta for under 1.50 euros a meal, while my buddy at a hotel nearby dropped 12 euros on a sad croissant and coffee every morning. The hostel kitchen was messy but having a stove and shared spices basically cut my daily food cost by 80 percent. Anyone else found that picking a place with a real kitchen beats paying for any included breakfast deal?

Did you hit up the local market for the eggs? That's the real move.
