Appreciation post: my 7pm flight to Lisbon saved me 80 bucks and a night of my life

Took a red-eye out of Dublin instead of the mid-day tourist trap, and I slept in a 24-hour laundromat in Alfama with my backpack as a pillow, then hit the castle at sunrise before any crowds. The trade-off was sketchy, but the empty streets and 4 euro pastel de nata made it worth it. Anyone else swear by overnight layovers over daylight flights, or am I just nuts?

God, yes! I did basically the same thing in Barcelona, landed at like 1am and just wandered around until sunrise with my stuff. Walked the whole Gothic quarter when it was dead quiet and grabbed those tiny churros from a place that was just opening up. The best part was getting to Sagrada Familia before the tour buses showed, I had the whole front of it to myself for like 20 minutes. Yeah the night was rough and I looked like a zombie the next day, but honestly the city felt more real at that hour than it ever does during the daytime chaos. I'd pick a sketchy night over a boring midday flight every single time.
