Rant: I was wrong about buying pre-cut veggies

For months I bought those $4 bags of pre-cut broccoli and carrots, thinking it saved time. Then I tried buying a whole head of broccoli and a bunch of carrots for $2.50 total at the Food Lion near me. Chopping them myself took maybe five extra minutes and I got almost double the amount. Has anyone else found a simple switch like that that saved a bunch of money?

My buddy did the same thing with those pre-made salad kits. He was spending like six bucks a bag for a single lunch. I watched him just buy a head of lettuce, a cucumber, and a tomato for half that. He spent ten minutes washing and chopping it all up at once, and it made salads for his whole work week. He said the weird preservative taste was gone too. It really is one of those things you don't realize until you try it yourself.

Actually, those salad kits are way more than six bucks now, closer to eight or nine.
