My partner called my bean burgers 'mushy sadness' and now I bake them first
Last Tuesday I made my usual bean burger recipe from a can of black beans and breadcrumbs, and my partner said they tasted like wet cardboard with a sad texture. After some grumbling I tried baking the patties for 10 minutes at 400 before pan frying them, and the difference was night and day with a crispy outside. Has anyone else gotten that kind of blunt feedback that actually turned out to be a game changer for a cheap meal?

Man, that's rough but kinda funny at the same time... did you change up the bean situation too, or just the cooking method? Like, did you try mashing them less or adding different stuff to hold it together better?

Respectfully, I see it differently. Sometimes you need to get the fundamentals right before you start tweaking the extras. How can you tell if a binder or different bean mash is working if you don't even know what basic cooking time does to the texture? Getting the core method solid first is the smart play.
