I spent $85 on that pre-cut veggie tray thing at Costco and I am still mad about it
Ok so everyone keeps telling me to buy the pre-cut veggie trays at Costco to save time on meal prep, and I finally did it two weeks ago. It cost $85. I stood in my kitchen and did the math on what I could have bought whole for that same money at the produce stand on Route 9, and it was about three times the amount of food. The carrots went soft in four days, the broccoli had brown spots by day three, and half the peppers were already getting wrinkly when I opened the package. I get that people work long hours and chopping celery at 9pm is nobody's idea of fun, but I did the actual math and I paid roughly $7 per pound for something I could have prepped myself in 25 minutes on a Sunday. The worst part is I told myself this would fix my weeknight dinner problem and all it did was drain my grocery money and give me guilt every time I opened the fridge and saw the slimy snap peas. Next time I am buying whole veggies and just sucking it up with a podcast on. Has anyone found prepped produce that actually holds up more than 5 days, or is that just not a real thing?
Man my buddy did the exact same thing last month, dropped like $80 on one of those trays and texted me a pic of brown broccoli on day four. He said the cucumbers were the first to go, turned to mush before the peppers even had a chance. He ended up tossing half of it and now he just roasts a sheet pan of whole veggies on Sunday and eats off that all week.
