TIL my trowel angle was costing me 15 bricks an hour on a job in Gary last week
A guy on the crew showed me I was holding it too flat so the mortar kept sliding off and I had to keep stopping to scoop it back up, and when I switched to a steeper angle my whole pace picked up, so does anyone else have a setup trick that fixed a bad habit you didn't even know you had?
Thought the angle thing was just old guys being picky about how you hold your tools, like it didn't really matter as long as the brick stuck. Then I watched a guy lay a full course without stopping once to fix his mortar and it clicked. My wrist was doing this weird scoop thing every third brick because the mud kept sliding off the flat trowel. Switched to holding it steeper and now my board stays cleaner too, way less waste. Funny how one small change you never noticed can cost you a whole hour of work.
