Pro tip: I built a tiny chair out of 200 toothpicks and now I can't stop, should I glue them or not glue them?
So I started this weird hobby of building miniature furniture about a month ago, and my first real project was a 1:12 scale dining chair using nothing but toothpicks and craft glue. I finished it last Tuesday and it took me about 14 hours spread over four nights, mostly because I kept snapping pieces and starting over. Now I'm on my third chair and I've hit a fork in the road: some people online say you should glue every single joint for strength, but others swear by leaving certain parts dry-fitted so you can take it apart and fix mistakes later. I tried the full glue method on chair one and it's solid as a rock but I messed up the seat angle and couldn't fix it without breaking two spindles. Chair two I left the legs dry and it wobbles like a guy who just ran a marathon, so I'm not sure that's the answer either. I live in a small apartment in Boise and this hobby is taking over my kitchen table, which my girlfriend pointed out with a sigh this morning. For anyone who does dollhouse or miniatures, which way do you go, and does the wood type actually matter or is that just something people say to sound smart?
