The diner napkin that killed my logo mood board

Was at a 24 hour diner off I-80 in Des Moines last Thursday. Waiting on my eggs and watching the owner hand write the specials board. Nothing fancy, just marker on plastic. But the way he crossed out a price and rewrote it higher without hesitation, that got me thinking. My client's brand deck had 40 logo options on a shared drive. Nobody could pick one. This guy's board was his whole identity and he changed it in two seconds. Went home and deleted the mood board. Built a one page brief with three questions instead. Has anyone else found that less choice for a client leads to faster decisions, or is it just me?
