Just noticed a competitor squatting on my old domain name after I let it lapse

I dropped the domain for a side project last June and by August someone had parked it with ads for my exact service category, so I'd advise anyone with an inactive brand site to check their renewal dates before your customers start landing on a stranger's offer, has anyone else dealt with this kind of squatting after a lapse?

Squatters are like vultures, they watch the expiration dates closer than you do.
