Warning: The 'Dune' book took me three months to finish before the movie came out

I wanted to read the book before watching the new film, but the worldbuilding and names were so dense I kept putting it down. It took me from January to April to finally get through all 600 pages. Has anyone else had a book take forever to read just for an adaptation?

My copy of "The Silmarillion" sat on my nightstand for almost a year before I finished it. I'd read a few pages about the Valar and just get completely lost. It feels like some books are built to be a slow grind, not a race to the finish. I almost gave up a few times, but the movies made me want to push through.
