Used to only watch the movie first then complain about the book later

Honestly I used to just watch the movie adaptation and get mad at my friends who said the book was better without ever reading it. Last year I finally picked up The Martian after seeing the movie and realized how much more detail the book had about the science stuff that got cut. Now I always read the book first for anything with hype and compare scene by scene. Has anyone else flipped their order around and found it changed their opinion?

Oh man, same thing happened to me with Dune! I saw the new movie first and loved it, but reading the book later made me realize how much internal stuff they just can't film. Now I'm the annoying person telling everyone to read it first. Definitely helps you catch more of the small details they adapt.

dude same here and @diana829 totally gets it. i did the exact opposite with Ready Player One - watched the movie first and thought it was fine, then read the book and realized the movie was basically a different story. felt like a moron for defending the movie for so long. now i always read first and just accept that the movie will probably mess it up. but hey at least we learned our lesson eventually right.
