Realized I was reading the movie tie-in cover versions all wrong

I spent years grabbing the mass market paperback with the movie poster on it thinking it was the same as the original, but last month I bought the old cover of The Martian for $2 at a library sale and found an entire chapter that the movie version cut out. The text was actually different in a few spots, like the publisher trimmed stuff to match the film script. Has anyone else noticed missing scenes in those tie-in editions?

honestly i feel like people overreact to this stuff. like yeah the movie tie in covers might cut a scene or two but it's usually just extra fluff that didn't matter anyway. i read the martian movie edition and it was fine, i didn't miss whatever they took out. publishers are just trying to make the book match the movie for people who saw it first, it's not like they're ruining the story. if you're really that upset about a missing chapter then buy the original cover version, it's not that hard. plus most readers probably don't even notice the differences, and if they do they probably don't care.

Nah I gotta disagree hard on this one. Saying it's "just extra fluff" is kind of a slap in the face to people who actually read the full book and loved it. I bought the movie tie in of Ready Player One without knowing they cut out a whole side quest and it totally changed how the story flowed. Felt like I was missing inside jokes.
