Just realized the show's ending hit the same notes as the book

Honestly, I just finished the adaptation of 'Normal People' and was nervous about the last episode. Tbh, they kept that quiet moment from the book where they just sit together. Ngl, it felt just as heavy and real as when I first went through the novel. Such a relief when they don't mess up the emotional parts.

God yes, that last scene was done so well lol. Tbh I held my breath the whole time because the book version wrecked me. They really got how quiet that part was, just the two of them in that room with all the stuff left unsaid. Finished the episode and immediately had to go find my copy to read the last chapter again. It's a relief when the show people actually respect the source material like that.

The show's ability to capture that unspoken tension is what made it so powerful for me. Do you think the actors' minimal expressions added more weight than the book's internal thoughts? In the book, we get Connell's and Marianne's inner voices, but on screen, it's all in their eyes and body language. That choice could make or break the adaptation, and they NAILED it.

Totally agree with @the_julia about the quiet scenes. What got me was the sound design, like how you could hear every breath and floorboard creak in those tense moments. Made the silence feel loud, you know?
