Hot take: Book beats the movie, especially when you're stuck in an airport
I read the novel before my flight and loved it, but the film I saw on the plane was a mess. The pacing was so slow I nearly missed my connection laughing at the bad effects.

Did you also get stuck watching that movie version where the CGI monster looked like a sock puppet and they cut out all the good backstory? Nothing like being trapped on a plane to really soak in how they took a great book and turned it into a boring slideshow. I swear the guy next to me was just watching for the bad green screen effects too. At least the book let me imagine it way better.

Read an interview where the director admitted they ran out of money halfway through filming, which explains the sock puppet monster. The studio made them cut the backstory to keep it under two hours. Honestly, hearing that just made the whole thing sadder instead of better.
