Swapped my normal bookmark for a binder clip after my paperback fell apart mid-chapter

Last month I was halfway through a 500 page thriller and the spine cracked so bad pages started falling out, so I tried clipping a binder clip to the top edge to hold everything together and it actually kept the book intact while I finished it, has anyone else had to jury-rig a book mid-read?

Nice! I actually did the same thing with a thick cookbook last week.

Mid-chapter" and the book "fell apart" huh? Sounds like you were reading a paperback the size of a brick. I get it, big books can be annoying to hold. But a binder clip? That seems like a lot of fuss for something that probably just needed a little tape on the spine. Honestly, a bent paperclip or just holding the pages together with your hand works fine too. It's a book, not a delicate surgery.
