Hit 500 welds without a single failure last Friday, still can't believe it
I've been a boilermaker for about 3 years now and last Friday I hit my 500th weld in a row without any rejection or failure. That number surprised me because when I started I was burning through rods like crazy and failing every other test. My foreman Jim had me redo the same pipe joint 4 times before it passed. But I kept at it and now my failure rate is basically zero for the last 6 months. Has anyone else tracked their personal milestones like this or am I just being weird about it?

Bet you're counting because you finally found that rhythm where the puddle just feels right. What was the one thing that clicked for you - was it the rod angle, the heat setting, or just learning to trust your hands more? I'm curious because I see guys hit 100 and then start getting sloppy, thinking they cracked the code.

@dianagreen you're giving these guys too much credit. Most of them aren't finding a rhythm, they're just getting lucky for a few passes and then immediately forgetting what they did. The real issue is they never had a stable process to begin with. Heat setting and rod angle are crutches for people who don't want to admit they're just bad at maintaining consistency. Trusting your hands is fine until your hands decide to change things up on you halfway through a bead. Half the guys bragging about hitting 100 couldn't replicate it if you paid them.
