Found out I was tightening flange bolts in a star pattern wrong for 3 years
Was torquing a 12 inch flange on a heat exchanger in Baton Rouge and my new helper asked why I went around twice before hitting final spec. Turns out I'd been doing a half pass then full pass instead of the 30, 70, 100 percent steps the spec sheet calls for. Anyone got a good rule of thumb for when to break out the torque wrench versus just snugging with a impact?
