The day I realized I was shuffling wrong for 3 years at my local game night

I used to mash shuffle my deck of cards, you know, just splitting and slapping them together. Then last month at a meetup in Portland, a guy named Dave showed me the overhand shuffle. He timed it and I was done in 20 seconds flat, no bent corners like before. Now I do the riffle shuffle with a bridge, and it takes maybe 15 seconds for a 60 card deck. Has anyone else had their mind blown by a basic mechanic they overlooked?

Man, that is a wild realization. I gotta ask though - did Dave actually time you with a stopwatch, or was he just being like "okay you're done now" and counting in his head? Cause I've seen people claim a 15 second riffle shuffle but they're skipping half the steps or only doing one pass.

Whoa, wait, 15 seconds for a full riffle shuffle with a bridge? That's nuts. I'd believe a mash shuffle in that time since you're just jamming cards together, but a proper riffle where you're bending and weaving each card individually sounds too fast. Either Dave's got some serious finger speed or there's some trick to it I'm missing.
