Teaching new players with the wiki open ruins the whole mystery

Last month at the Denver game cafe, I watched someone stop a newbie from exploring a tile in Gloomhaven because the rules lawyer pulled up the exact outcome on their phone, and honestly letting people make bad choices and stumble through the story is the whole fun, so why do we keep turning every session into a classroom lecture, has anyone else stopped using reference sheets mid-game just to watch the table panic and laugh?
