Pro tip: bag your board game pieces before game night, not during it
Honestly I want to scream. We sat down for our usual Saturday game night at my buddy Dave's place in Tacoma with 6 people ready to play, and I opened my copy of Ticket to Ride to find the train cars and route cards just loose in the box. No bags, no rubber bands, nothing. Two of the tiny train pieces were already missing from the last time somebody packed it up in a hurry, so we spent 20 minutes crawling around under his couch looking for them instead of actually playing. We ended up with only 43 out of 45 pieces, which meant the route scoring was toast before we even started. I bagged everything that night with some ziplocks from his kitchen drawer, but the damage was done and the mood was dead. Nobody wants to be the guy counting pieces like a hawk while everyone else is waiting. Am I crazy for wanting to just buy a second copy and keep it sealed as the good set? How do you all store your games so this stops happening?
Keeping a sealed backup copy is smart but you also gotta bag the playing copy the second the game ends, before anyone walks away from the table. Make it a rule that whoever opens the box is the one who counts and bags it back up, that's the only thing that's actually stuck for our group.
