Open game night at the library showed me who actually hosts well
Went to the Free Library on Arch Street last Tuesday and watched their weekly open board game table. About 14 people showed up and this one guy, Mike, brought 6 games but only put out 2 at a time. He swapped them every hour or so based on who was sitting there. That small move kept everyone engaged the whole 3 hours. Has anyone else noticed that the best hosts are the ones who rotate games instead of dumping everything out at once?

Man, that Mike guy sounds like a genius. My version of hosting is putting out every single snack I own at once and then panic-buying more because I think people will judge me. The rotation thing makes so much sense, keeps the energy fresh without anyone getting bored or stuck on a game they hate. I tried something similar once with my game shelf, but I just ended up rotating myself to the fridge for a snack break mid-round. Honestly, the only thing I host well is a pity party when nobody shows up to my game night. Maybe I should take notes from library Mike, he's clearly got the secret sauce.
