Unpopular opinion: manual hammers beat power hammers for small detail work
I spent 6 months saving for a $2,200 power hammer but ended up sticking with my old 2-pound cross peen. Tried a buddy's power hammer at his shop in Portland last month and it just mashed my scroll ends flat. Took me 3 tries to fix the damage with a chisel. Anyone else find power hammers overkill for gate hardware?

Man, I had to read that twice. 2200 bucks for a power hammer and you still go back to the cross peen? That's wild. I've seen guys drop serious cash on those things and then barely use them for anything but flattening stock. A scroll setter and a good hand hammer can do more for detail work than any air hammer I've ever seen. It's like owning a semi truck to haul groceries.
