Rushing through cooling can actually change the material on a microscopic level. That internal tension you're avoiding is what gives the final product its real strength. Letting it settle isn't just waiting, it's part of the making.

My uncle does custom knife work and he told me the exact same thing. He rushed the temper on a batch last year and three of them chipped on first use. Honestly, watching him redo the whole slow cool process was a lesson. Tbh, that waiting time is where the magic happens, you can't cheat it.
