Rant: Hit my 500th blade forged and I'm still making rookie mistakes

Ngl after 500 knives I figured I'd have heat treating down pat but I ruined a $80 billet of 1095 yesterday because I forgot to normalize before quench. How many blades did it take you guys to stop making dumb errors?
