Finally got my forge to stop eating coal like crazy
It was burning through a 50lb bag in under two days, which was killing my budget. I started banking the fire with a thicker layer of damp clay and sawdust mix around the edges, and my coal use dropped by almost half. Anyone else have weird fuel-saving tricks that actually worked?

My old neighbor ran a pottery kiln that was just as bad. He switched to a mix of waste wood chips from a local cabinet shop and a bit of old motor oil, which sounds wild but it worked. He said it burned slower and way hotter than just straight wood. It made his whole yard smell like a mechanic's garage, though.

My forge used to burn money just as fast as coal. Glad you found a way to make it less of a hungry monster.
