Took me 5 seasons to realize I was watching The Office on 1.5x speed for no reason

I binged the entire show at 1.5x speed on Netflix for years. Thought it was normal since I do that with most shows to save time. Last week my buddy watched an episode with me and asked why everyone sounded like chipmunks. That's when it hit me. I missed so many jokes and pauses because I was rushing through it. Has anyone else accidentally ruined a comedy by speeding it up without thinking?

My buddy actually did the same thing with Parks and Rec. He swore the show was just okay until his wife made him watch it normal speed and he realized he'd been missing half the facial expressions. Whole different show at regular pace, totally agree with you on that.

Adding to what Kim said, I did the same thing with Brooklyn Nine-Nine and totally missed all the subtle background gags the first time through. Slowing it down to regular speed made the show feel completely different, like I was watching it for the first time again.
