Tried a new chain wax setup and it was a total mess

Honestly, I followed a guide for that hot wax dip method with a slow cooker. The chain came out looking great, but after ten miles it picked up every bit of grit on the trail and sounded awful. Anyone have a better way to keep a waxed chain clean on dusty rides?
