Switched from wet lube to wax drip after a muddy April commute and my drivetrain lasts twice as long now

For like 3 years I used the same wet lube on my commuter bike. Every week I'd clean the chain and reapply but the mud would just turn everything into grinding paste. After one particularly bad ride last April where my chain started skipping after only 40 miles, I switched to a wax drip lube that a mechanic at the co-op recommended. Now I only clean the chain maybe every 200 miles and shifting feels way smoother in wet conditions. Has anyone else noticed their cassette lasts longer with wax?

Wait till your third kid pukes on your bike and you have to decide if cleaning barf off the chain is worth it. I switched to wax drip too but honestly I still clean my chain every 80 miles because my brain won't let me not scrub it. The cassette thing might be real but I replace mine every two years out of habit so I can't tell the difference.

Right so you're telling me you spent years basically sanding down your drivetrain with mud paste for fun... I made the switch to wax drip about 18 months ago and my cassette still looks like it came off the shelf. The whole wet lube thing is just a scam to keep you buying chains honestly. Now I just wipe the chain with a rag every few rides and reapply the wax every 100 miles or so. Way less scrubbing and way more time actually riding instead of cleaning.
