Bought a $30 garlic press from Williams Sonoma, total waste

I finally admitted to myself that fancy garlic press was a mistake. It took me 6 months of cleaning that thing with a toothpick to realize my $5 knife works way better. The press just clogs up and I lost 20 bucks honestly cause I could have bought a 6 pack of garlic with that. Does anyone actually have a garlic press that cleans easy or is it all just hype?

Wait, are you me? I used to be all about kitchen gadgets and thought a garlic press was a must have. But yeah, after buying a nice one and spending way too long picking garlic skin out of the slots with a fork I totally gave up. I finally just started smashing cloves with the flat side of my knife and it changed everything. Way faster, less cleanup, and I don't feel like I need a special tool for one ingredient. It's basically just a flavor trap honestly.

Yeah but @matthewgonzalez, you're missing the part where a press also squirts garlic juice everywhere and stinks up your whole kitchen for a day. Smashing with a knife is just cleaner and you get better control.
