TIL giving out a BBQ recipe can put you in a tough spot
At a cook-off, a pitmaster I respect asked for my rub mix. It's been in my family for generations. I didn't want to seem selfish, but I also didn't want to give it all away. So I shared a similar recipe I made up. Still wondering if that was the right thing to do.

My friend gave out her real lemon bar recipe once. The person who got it started selling them at bake sales and never gave her credit. She felt pretty burned by that. Now she changes one small thing when sharing, like using lime zest instead of lemon. That way her special version stays hers.
