Pro tip: the $9 thermometer from the hardware store beat my fancy wireless one at the smoker
Had a brisket going in my offset in the backyard over in Fort Worth on Saturday and my $90 wireless probe died about 4 hours in, battery just quit on me. I ran inside and grabbed the cheap dial thermometer I keep for checking grill temps, stuck it through the flat, and it read 198 while the wireless had been sitting around 205. Pulled it right then and the slices were the best I've turned out in maybe a year, no crutch, just peach paper at hour 7. Now I'm wondering how many cooks I wrecked trusting that gadget instead of my own hand and a $9 dial. Anyone else ditch the tech and go back to old school thermometers, or am I just lucky?
