TIL a damp towel under my clipper oil mat keeps static down
Been fighting static flyaways for months in my booth at that old building on 3rd street. Saw a barber in Memphis drape a wet shop rag under his mat and it killed the static cold, now I do it too. Anyone else deal with weird static in dry shops?

Wait, isn't it just the moisture in the air that does the trick, not the towel under the mat? I always thought static builds up when the air gets too dry, so a damp towel anywhere in the booth would help. You might be getting the same effect by just running a humidifier in the corner for a few hours before clients show up. The mat thing works but it feels like you're fighting the symptom instead of the cause.

Ngl, I feel like people overthink this static thing. I've been doing photography for years and I just use a spray bottle with water and a little fabric softener, spritz the air once, good to go. Never had a client complain about static cling. That towel under the mat trick sounds like extra steps for a problem that barely exists if you just keep the room at a normal humidity level.
