Had a $0 tip Tuesday that almost made me quit on the spot

Last Tuesday I had four haircuts in a row, all new customers, and none of them tipped a single dollar. One guy even told me he loved the fade and then walked out. I spent 45 minutes on a skin fade for a kid who just stared at his phone the whole time. Anyone else have a day where the tips just completely disappear?

Oh man, I gotta respectfully disagree with you here lol. Tipping is supposed to be a bonus for going above and beyond, not a requirement for doing your job. If you're counting on tips to make your day not suck, maybe the issue is the base pay or the way you're looking at it. I get that it stings when you put in work and don't get extra, but nobody owes you a tip for a haircut, even a good one. Maybe just focus on the fact that the kid loved his fade and walked out happy, that's the job done right, not the tip.

Really though, if we're all being honest, how did we get to a point where a tip feels like a mandatory fee instead of a thank you? I mean, a haircut is a service with a set price, same as getting your oil changed or your taxes done. Nobody tips their mechanic for doing a good job swapping out a filter, so why's a barber different just cause you're sitting in a chair? At the end of the day the kid got a great cut and that's what was paid for, the extra should just be a cherry on top if you felt like it.
