Clipper-over-comb vs. scissor-over-comb for the crown of a cowlick. I chose wrong at first.

I had this client with a nasty double crown that stuck up no matter what. For months I tried scissor-over-comb to blend it out but always ended up with a gap. Last week I forced myself to use clipper-over-comb with a #2 blade just on that spot and it laid down perfectly after 2 passes. Has anyone else had a specific section that forced you to swap your go-to technique?

Call scissor-over-comb the wrong choice here and you're just admitting you didn't take enough time to work the crown correctly. I've fixed dozens of double crowns with nothing but scissors and a fine-tooth comb, you just have to undercut the bulk in sections and let the hair fall naturally between cuts. Clipper-over-comb on a cowlick is a shortcut that leaves you with no forgiveness if you slip and remove too much.
