Vent: My sourdough starter doubled in 3 hours and I almost lost it

Honestly, my kitchen was way too warm and the yeast went crazy. I checked on it and it was already pushing over the rim of my 2-quart Cambro container. Has anyone else had a starter go this fast in a hot room?

Totally get it, my starter did the same thing last week. Like @david_hayes said, cooler water helps a ton. I just stuck the whole jar in the fridge for a bit to calm it down.

My kitchen hit 78 degrees last summer and the same thing happened. I switched to a straight-sided half gallon mason jar, which gives me a lot more headroom. You can also slow it down by using cooler water when you feed it, or moving it to a cooler spot like the basement for a few hours.
