Heard a customer at the shop say they'd leave a bad review because our sourdough 'tasted too sour'

Made me think we might need to put a small sign up explaining the natural fermentation process. Has anyone else had to deal with customers not understanding basic bread types?

Honestly, a sign feels like giving in. Sourdough is called that for a reason, it's in the name. Some people just expect bread to taste like supermarket white loaf. Explaining the process won't fix a customer who walks in already wanting something else. You can't educate every single person on the basics, it's a losing game. Maybe they should just buy the brioche.

Exactly. You put a sign up and then what, you need another sign to explain the first sign? It's sourdough, not wonder bread. The whole point is that tang. If someone walks in wanting a sweet, soft loaf, they already made their choice before they saw your menu. Why waste time arguing with a closed mind? Let them have their brioche and leave the good stuff for people who get it.

Well like @richard_sanchez43 said, it's sourdough, not some sweet cake. I had this one lady come in once and complain that our rye bread tasted "too earthy" and I honestly didn't know what to say to her. People are SO used to that fluffy commercial bread that anything with actual character throws them off. It's like going to a steakhouse and complaining the steak tastes too much like beef. At some point you just gotta shrug and let them go buy their plain white loaf from the grocery store.
