My $3 DVD of Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus froze at the best part, and it made me rethink my whole collection
Last Friday I grabbed Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus on DVD for $3 at a thrift store in Dayton, and around the 40 minute mark the disc froze right when the shark jumps and takes out a plane. I sat there for a second, then realized the freeze was almost funnier than the scene itself. So I started hunting for scratched up discs on purpose, and now my shelf is full of movies that glitch in ways nobody planned. The weird part is I can't tell anymore if I love these movies or just love watching them fall apart. Does anyone else keep a busted copy around just because of where it breaks?
Wait, did the plane scene actually happen at 40 minutes? I'm pretty sure that part is way later, like closer to the hour mark, and the disc freeze thing might just be your player choking on the layer change. A lot of cheap DVDs from that era would hiccup right at the halfway point because of how the data was split, so it might not even be a scratch. Either way I get the appeal, but if the freeze is from the disc being dirty you can just wipe it with a soft cloth and it'll play fine, no permanent glitch to collect.
