Shoutout to the neighbor who showed me how to use a soaker hose right

My neighbor Sarah in Austin showed me that I was running the soaker hose for just 15 minutes when clay soil needs like 45. She said "your grass is thirsty, not drowning" and now my backyard isn't a mud pit. Anyone else have a neighbor who saved your garden game?

Wait, clay soil needs 45 minutes? I've been doing 20 minutes like a noob for the past two years. Your neighbor just saved my lawn too, my yard's been nothing but puddles.

Three years ago I was exactly where you are now. I had puddles standing for days after every rain and my grass was patchy and yellow. Finally I asked a neighbor who has a perfect lawn and he walked me through it. He told me clay soil acts like a sponge that takes forever to soak in water. So now I run my sprinkler for 10 minutes, wait 30 minutes for it to absorb, then do another 10 minutes. It sounds crazy but it really works. You will be amazed at the difference once you stretch that watering time out.
