Shoutout to the guy at the hardware store who saved my patio project

I was trying to level a 10x12 foot paver patio area and the ground just would not settle right. Thought it would be a weekend job, ended up taking three whole weeks of back and forth. The problem was my base layer of gravel was too thin, only about 2 inches, and I kept getting dips after rain. The guy at the local Ace told me to pull it all up and start over with a proper 4-inch compacted base. Has anyone else had a simple patio turn into a month-long fight with the dirt?

That "simple weekend job turning into a month-long fight" is so real. I see it everywhere now, like a hidden rule for home projects. You think you're just hanging a shelf, but then you find a wall stud is off and you need different anchors and suddenly you're three trips deep. It's never just the one thing.
