Put $400 into a raised garden bed setup last spring and it already paid for itself

Pulled over 60 pounds of tomatoes and peppers from that thing in just 3 months, plus my grocery bills dropped noticeably through summer. Anyone else find their veggie garden actually saves money or was I just lucky?

60 pounds from a raised bed in 3 months? That's wild. I know people who spend that much on just a few trips to the farmers market so you're probably way ahead. I've been toying with the idea but my luck with plants is basically zero.

Kale is basically unkillable. That's what I started with. Also cherry tomatoes grow like weeds if you just water them. I killed every houseplant I ever owned before trying a raised bed. Thought I had a black thumb for real. The trick for me was starting small. Just three plants. A tomato, some basil, and zucchini. Watched YouTube videos when stuff looked weird. Didn't overthink it. Soil quality mattered way more than I expected. Cheap potting mix killed my first batch quick. Spent a little more on good stuff and everything took off. You really can't mess up zucchini. It's almost aggressive. Put it in the ground and it just goes. Same with pole beans. They climb everything and produce forever. Gave me enough confidence to try harder stuff later.
