Can we talk about how much water a big lawn really uses?
I was reading a report from the University of California's agriculture extension and it said a 1,000 square foot lawn can drink over 60,000 gallons of water in a single summer. I found that number just wild, especially with how dry it's been here lately. Has anyone else looked into switching to more drought-friendly plants because of stuff like this?

Man, I used to think a green lawn was just what you did... but seeing numbers like that changes everything. My neighbor switched to a rock garden last year and his place looks fine, honestly. It just doesn't make sense to fight the climate like that.

Dude, that number is insane. My buddy out in Arizona got hit with a crazy water bill last year because of his grass. He finally ripped it all out and put in some local plants and rocks. His bill dropped by like two thirds the next summer, and his yard still looks cool, just in a different way. It's a big project upfront but he says it was totally worth it. Makes you wonder why we're still watering so much grass in dry places.
