Warning: your map app is lying about the climb out of Snoqualmie Pass
I pulled up the elevation profile for the 12 mile stretch out of Snoqualmie Pass and my route app showed a gentle 1,800 foot gain, but every trip report and a ranger at the trailhead said it is closer to 2,600 feet. Turns out the app smooths over switchbacks and ignores the two steep pushes near the top, which is why so many people bonk there around mile 8 with heavy packs. Has anyone else noticed this gap between app elevation numbers and what the actual trail puts under your boots?
Did you check if your app has a setting for trail vs road routing? I'm curious if switching that fixes the numbers or if these apps are just bad at switchbacks no matter what.
